The BRASCAM was founded in 1911. At the time, Belgium was the second most industrialized country in the world and was already developing activities in Brazil. The Belgian companies were responsible for building railways, bridges, undergrounds and entire cities (i.e. Heliopolis) across the globe. During that mentioned time, both large industrial firms and medium-sized industries and commercial companies invested in Brazil.
In order to encourage such trade, an influential group of Belgian businessmen gathered in Brussels and formed a de facto association, the Belgo-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. Since then, Belgium has remained a solid investor in Brazil.
